Zusammenfassung: Der vorliegende Beitrag geht von den syntaktischen Besonderheiten der Modalpartikel ‚halt‘ aus: Das ist die Möglichkeit, nur mit (nicht-finiten) Phrasen aufzutreten, gehäuft innerhalb eines Satzes zu erscheinen sowie eine Position nicht im Mittelfeld eines Satzes einzunehmen. Diese Vorkommen werden auf der Basis verschiedener empirischer Daten genauer analysiert, wobei ein besonderer Fokus auf ‚halt‘ im Nachfeld gelegt wird. Dabei ergibt sich die Frage, ob es sich bei dieser Verwendung überhaupt um eine Modalpartikel handelt. Dazu erfolgt eine Bedeutungsanalyse, die auf eine andere Variante von ‚halt‘ hindeutet. Deshalb wird dafür plädiert, die nicht-kanonischen Verwendungen von ‚halt‘ nicht als Modalpartikel- Vorkommen zu kategorisieren, sondern den Übergang in eine andere Kategorie, die der Diskurspartikeln, anzunehmen.

Abstract: The present article analyses the use of the modal particle ‚halt‘, proceeding from its specific syntactic properties, i. e. to occur with (non-finite) phrases only, to be used cumulatively in one sentence, and to take a non-sentence-medial („Mittelfeld“) position. These occurrences are analysed in greater detail using various empirical data, with a special focus on ‚halt‘ in the so-called „Nachfeld“. The analysis leads to the question whether, regarding this mode of occurrence, ‚halt‘ can be categorized as modal particle at all. To examine this, a meaning analysis is performed, which points at another variant of ‚halt‘ . Therefore, the article argues against the categorization of non-canonical uses of ‚halt‘ as modal particle. Instead, a categorization of these uses as discourse particle seems more suitable.
